ALTERNATIVE
A free Sensor Tower alternative for indie developers
Sensor Tower prices plans through sales. AppGazers is free during beta for iOS and Google Play revenue estimates, keywords, reviews and ads. Compare them.
A free Sensor Tower alternative for indie developers should answer “is this niche worth building for?” without a sales call. AppGazers is built for that job, free during beta for iOS and Google Play. Sensor Tower customizes pricing per customer and covers far more: usage, audiences, web, omnichannel ads and PC and console games.

Is AppGazers a good free Sensor Tower alternative?
It can be, for early market research. AppGazers lets you find rising apps, filter 5.4 million iOS and Google Play listings, compare modeled downloads and gross in-app spend, read rankings and reviews, check keyword difficulty, and see the public Meta and Google creative behind a competitor, all free during beta.
It is not a Sensor Tower replacement. AppGazers has no panel-based usage, retention, session, audience, web or omnichannel advertising data. If those numbers would change your decision, you need Sensor Tower or a similar enterprise source.
What Sensor Tower does well
Breadth. Sensor Tower’s homepage describes app performance (downloads, revenue, RPD, active users, sessions, time spent, keyword rankings, ratings, reviews and search ads), app advertising, gaming, advanced usage, Pathmatics digital advertising, retail media, audience and web insights. Its pricing page adds Video Game Insights for PC and console, Playliner live-ops analysis and Gen AI visibility.
Its data starts with people. Sensor Tower says it collects a representative sample of app and advertising activity through a global first-party consumer panel and app store APIs, then enriches it with models and third-party datasets. Panel data is what lets it report engagement and audiences, which store-signal models cannot see.
It has also consolidated the market. Sensor Tower acquired data.ai in March 2024, and AppMagic says Sensor Tower acquired it on May 12, 2026 to serve small and medium-sized businesses.
Where AppGazers fits
No procurement step. Sensor Tower’s pricing page says it customizes plans for each customer and routes you to a demo form. AppGazers opens after Google sign-in, which suits a solo developer checking an idea on a Sunday.
Estimates that show their uncertainty. Every AppGazers figure carries its period and an 80% band, and tiny apps are labeled “under $5K” instead of receiving a precise-looking guess.
One path from idea to evidence: rising and trending lists, developer portfolios, country-level keyword scores, filtered reviews, public ads and alerts on saved competitors.
When Sensor Tower is still the right call
Choose Sensor Tower, or ask it for a demo, if any of these describe your work.
- You need daily active users, retention, sessions or time spent for apps you do not own.
- You report advertising share of voice or spend across Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, OTT and display.
- You analyse PC and console games alongside mobile.
- You need an established vendor with enterprise contracts, support and data shared across teams.
Same app, both tools: ChatGPT
AppGazers estimated August 2026 gross in-app spend for the ChatGPT iOS listing at about $94M, with an 80% band of $44M to $239M, and downloads of about 15.7M (8.4M to 34.8M). The Google Play listing was estimated at about $52M ($21M to $124M) with about 28.5M downloads and a lifetime install bracket of 1B+. Figures as of October 6, 2026.
Sensor Tower does not publish app-level numbers on its pricing page, so compare its figures for the same app and month inside a demo. A wide band on a fast-moving app like this signals more uncertainty; quote the range, not the midpoint.
Questions to ask in a Sensor Tower demo
If you do book a demo, bring one real decision and ask questions that expose fit, not features.
- Which products does my quote include: app performance only, or usage, audience and advertising data too?
- What does the free account include, and what needs a paid plan?
- Is the contract annual, and how many seats does it cover?
- For three apps I know well, what do your estimates show for the same month?
- Is MCP or API access included, and with what limits?
How to switch from Sensor Tower
If you are moving down from an enterprise contract, split the work by data type rather than by tool.
- Move discovery, estimates, keyword checks and review research to AppGazers.
- Rebuild your competitor set in Your apps for chart, review, ad and estimate alerts.
- Keep a source for usage and audience data only if a recurring decision depends on it.
- Document which source each number in a report came from, and its period.
