Best Mobile Ad Creative Research Tools (2026): Free and Paid Compared

Compare free ad libraries and paid ad-intelligence tools for competitor app creatives: Meta Ad Library, Google Ads Transparency, TikTok and AppGazers.

The best free mobile ad creative research tools are the platforms’ own libraries: Meta Ad Library, Google Ads Transparency Center and TikTok’s Creative Center. They show ads and, at most, relative performance hints, not spend. AppGazers ties public Meta (EU/UK) and Google creatives to app estimates; paid tools such as SocialPeta add more networks and spend models.

What ad creative research can and cannot tell you

Public ad libraries show which creatives an advertiser is running, roughly when they started, and on which placements. Repeated or long-running creatives are a hint that something is working well enough to keep paying for. That is useful evidence for hooks, formats, offers and localization ideas.

They do not show commercial spend, installs, cost per install or return on ad spend. TikTok’s Top Ads is a partial exception: it sorts curated ads by reach, CTR, view rates and, on desktop, CVR, and shows relative second-by-second analytics, which still does not establish profitability or exact spend. A creative can run for months because nobody turned it off. Every spend figure you see in a third-party tool is a model built from reach, impressions or panels, and should be read as a rough band, not a platform number.

Free: Meta Ad Library

Meta’s Ad Library is free and searchable without logging in. It shows all ads currently running across Meta technologies, plus political and issue ads from the past seven years, ads that ran anywhere in the EU in the past year, and UK ads from the past year that ran after July 1, 2025. Search by advertiser or keyword, filter by country, and open an ad to see when it started running and on which Meta platforms.

Limits: inactive commercial ads outside the EU and UK disappear, spend is shown only for political and issue ads, and nothing links an ad to the app’s store performance. Best for: seeing exactly which creatives a competitor is running today.

Free: Google Ads Transparency Center

Google’s Ads Transparency Center is a free, searchable repository of ads served on Search, Display, Gmail and YouTube, from verified advertisers and from advertisers who have not completed verification, which carry an “unverified” badge. You can filter by date and targeted location, and some regions show extra fields such as targeting details. For app research it is the main free way to see a competitor’s YouTube and display creatives.

Limits: no performance or spend figures for commercial ads, and searching by app rather than by advertiser can take some trial and error. Best for: Google and YouTube creatives that the Meta library cannot show.

Free: TikTok Creative Center and Commercial Content Library

TikTok runs two free surfaces. Creative Center’s Top Ads dashboard highlights top-performing ads with filters for region, objective, format and language, and lets you sort by reach, CTR and view rates with relative second-by-second analytics; without logging in you see only five ads, and the full list needs a login. The Commercial Content Library is free without an account and lists ads shown to users in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, including paused or inactive ads for a year after they were last shown, with advertiser, dates, reach ranges and targeting summaries.

Limits: Top Ads is curated rather than a complete library, and the Commercial Content Library is limited to European delivery. Best for: TikTok-native hooks and formats, which often differ from Meta creatives.

Free during beta: AppGazers

AppGazers collects public commercial Meta ads delivered in the EU and UK, plus Google Ads Transparency Center creatives, and links them to App Store and Google Play listings. For each app you can see active and stopped creatives, new creatives in the last seven days, the longest-running ads, the media mix and EU reach, next to the same app’s modeled downloads, gross in-app spend, rankings and reviews.

Limits: no TikTok, Unity or other network coverage, Meta coverage is EU/UK delivery only, and its spend figure is a rough reach-based band, not a platform number. Best for: moving from “this app is growing” to “here is the creative it is scaling” without switching tools. The workspace is free during beta after Google sign-in.

AppKittie lists a winning ads library and an ad spend tracker by country alongside revenue estimates and a viral-video library; its plan was $79 a month or $49 a month billed yearly on October 6, 2026. Peekly lists an ads library with run duration, estimated EU reach and target countries, plus organic TikTok, Reels and Shorts; it has a free limited account and a paid plan shown at $20 a month billed yearly (discounted from a struck-through $41).

Both link ads to apps, which saves the matching work the free libraries leave to you. We did not evaluate their accuracy, and the pages we reviewed did not describe a reproducible spend or reach method.

Foreplay is built for creative teams: a swipe file, a discovery library its site sizes at more than 200 million ads, competitor tracking, briefs and a Chrome extension, with a 7-day trial and a Basic plan at $49 a month. BigSpy is an ad-spy library whose Starter plan, $69 a month or $49 a month billed yearly, covers Facebook and Instagram; higher tiers add TikTok, Google, YouTube, Pangle and Unity.

Neither is app-specific: you search by brand or keyword and connect results to store data yourself. Best for: teams producing many creatives that need a shared library and briefs.

Enterprise: SocialPeta and Sensor Tower

SocialPeta positions itself as ad intelligence across more than 80 countries with an AI assistant; it offers demos and did not publish a price when we checked. Sensor Tower bundles ad intelligence with app downloads, revenue, usage and audience data, with customized pricing through sales.

Choose these when you need many networks, many regions and modeled spend at scale, and the budget for a sales-led contract. For most indie developers the free libraries plus an app-linked tool cover the first months of creative research.

Example: one app’s public Meta footprint in AppGazers

To show what an app-linked view adds, here is what AppGazers held for Magic Sort! (iOS, Grand Games) on October 6, 2026. The index contained 167 Meta creatives linked to the app, 164 of them active; 163 of the active creatives were video. The first creative started on August 21, 2026; of the 167, 61 started in August, 104 in September and 2 in early October. The reported EU reach of the active creatives was about 10.6 million.

AppGazers turns that reach into an illustrative spend band of about $42K–$127K by applying an assumed $4–$12 per thousand reached. Reach is not the same as impressions and reach across ads can overlap, so the band is a rough proxy, labeled in the product as not a platform figure, and it only covers EU/UK delivery that Meta discloses. The same app’s modeled worldwide gross in-app spend for August 2026 was about $6.1M (80% band $2.8M–$15.4M). Neither number tells you return on ad spend; together they suggest an active advertiser worth studying.

A practical creative research workflow

Start with the apps, not the ads. Pick five competitors in your category, then pull their active creatives from each free library and note the hook in the first three seconds, the format, the offer and the call to action. Group creatives by concept rather than by file, because advertisers run many near-identical variants.

  • List five competitors and their store links.
  • Collect active creatives from Meta Ad Library, Google Ads Transparency Center and TikTok where available.
  • Tag each creative by hook, format, length, offer and language.
  • Look for concepts that recur across months or across several competitors.
  • Turn two or three concepts into tests for your own app and measure them with your own attribution.

How we compared these tools

We reviewed each tool’s own product, help and pricing pages on October 6, 2026, focusing on which networks and regions it covers, whether it links ads to apps, whether it models spend, and what is free. We did not measure any vendor’s ad coverage or spend accuracy. AppGazers is our product, and its coverage limits are stated in the same terms as everyone else’s.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see a competitor’s app ads for free?

Search the advertiser in Meta Ad Library, Google Ads Transparency Center and TikTok’s Commercial Content Library or Creative Center. All are free. Meta shows every active ad worldwide; TikTok’s library covers ads shown in Europe.

Can I see how much a competitor spends on ads?

Not exactly. Meta and Google do not publish commercial ad spend. Third-party tools model spend from reach, impressions or panels; AppGazers, for example, shows a rough reach-based band and labels it as not a platform figure.

Does the Meta Ad Library show inactive ads?

For commercial ads, only those that ran in the EU in the past year, or in the UK in the past year after July 1, 2025. Inactive ads delivered elsewhere are not shown, except political and issue ads, which are kept for seven years.

What is the best free tool for TikTok app ads?

TikTok’s own Creative Center Top Ads for inspiration, and the Commercial Content Library for a fuller record of ads shown in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. Both are free.

Does a long-running ad mean it is profitable?

Not necessarily. Longevity suggests an advertiser keeps paying for a creative, which is a useful signal, but ads also run because nobody switched them off. Treat it as a hypothesis to test, not proof.

Which ad networks does AppGazers cover?

Meta ads delivered in the EU and UK, and Google Ads Transparency Center creatives. It does not cover TikTok or other networks. AppGazers is free during beta.
