Keyword shuffle

A keyword shuffle tool turns a list of words into every unique one-, two- and three-word combination, so you can brainstorm App Store and Google Play search phrases.

For brainstorming only: a combination is not evidence that anyone searches for it. Score the ones you like in the keyword difficulty checker.

Free, no sign-in. Runs in your browser: what you paste never leaves it and is not stored.

Paste seed words, optionally leave out your title’s words, then copy or download the list. A combination is a candidate to check, not evidence that anyone searches for it.

From seed words to a shortlist

StepWhat to doBoundary
1. Seed wordsList the nouns, verbs and features users would typeThe shuffle cannot invent words you did not give it
2. ShuffleGenerate one-, two- and three-word combinationsSome combinations will read as nonsense; skip them
3. ScoreCheck promising phrases in the keyword difficulty checkerScores are heuristics, not search counts
4. PlacePut the strongest terms in your name, subtitle or keyword fieldRespect each field’s limit and the stores’ metadata rules

How the shuffle works

The tool splits your input on spaces, commas and new lines, lower-cases each word and drops repeats. It then lists every ordered combination of distinct words, shortest first: “photo editor” and “editor photo” both appear, because people type phrases in different orders. It reads up to 20 words and shows up to 1,000 combinations; the total is shown when the list is cut.

Tick the option to leave out title words and paste your app name: those words are removed before combining, which suits the App Store keyword field, where Apple advises against repeating words from the name or subtitle.

Turn a long list into a shortlist

Read the two- and three-word lines first and keep the ones a real user would type. Check each kept phrase in the keyword difficulty checker for the store and country you care about, and look at the apps already ranking before deciding.

Apple does not document how it combines words across the name, subtitle and keyword field, so treat any combination advice as a hypothesis and watch your own rankings after a change.

Frequently asked questions

Does the keyword shuffle show search volume?

No. It only rearranges your words to help you brainstorm. Use the keyword difficulty checker to see the 0–100 popularity and difficulty scores AppGazers has stored for a phrase.

Why are both word orders listed?

Users type phrases in different orders, and the stores do not document whether two orders are always treated the same. Listing both lets you choose the natural one.

Why is the list capped?

The tool reads up to 20 distinct words and shows up to 1,000 combinations, so the list stays reviewable. The full count is shown when the list is cut; use fewer seed words for a complete list.

Are my words sent to AppGazers?

No. The shuffle runs in your browser: what you paste never leaves your browser and is not stored. It is free with no sign-in.
