Connect AppGazers to Grok: What xAI MCP Supports
Understand the documented Grok, xAI API, and Grok Build MCP paths before connecting AppGazers for app-market research.
xAI documents several MCP-related surfaces: Grok connectors, remote MCP tools in the xAI API, and MCP servers in Grok Build. They are not one configuration path. AppGazers is a public remote MCP endpoint at https://appgazers.com/mcp, but its OAuth flow has not been live-tested in Grok; follow xAI’s current product documentation before relying on it.
At a glance
| xAI surface | Official documentation says | Practical limit |
|---|---|---|
| Grok custom connectors | A remote MCP server must be publicly reachable | Connector availability and authorization behavior need rechecking |
| xAI API remote tools | Remote MCP can be supplied as a tool integration | This is developer/API work, not a Grok chat UI setup |
| Grok Build | Supports local stdio and remote HTTP MCP servers | A Build project setup is distinct from connectors |
Choose the xAI product surface first
Grok custom connectors are user-facing integrations. The xAI API remote-MCP feature is a developer tool call pattern. Grok Build documents its own MCP-server support. Start with the surface where the research will run, because a setting or authorization flow in one is not evidence that another supports it.
For any remote attempt, use the public HTTPS endpoint https://appgazers.com/mcp. Do not use localhost for a hosted connector and do not paste a token into a connector URL.
Use the documented remote-MCP pattern
xAI’s remote MCP tools documentation describes adding a remote tool by URL in an API request, with authorization where required. Its custom-connector documentation emphasizes a publicly reachable server. Let the client initiate the authorization process if it supports the AppGazers OAuth metadata rather than manufacturing a credential.
If the UI rejects the endpoint or the OAuth redirect fails, stop and record the exact surface, date, and error. Check the xAI documentation and AppGazers connection details before retrying; this guide does not assert a successful live connection.
Request research that can be verified
Once a client connection is working, use read-only market research and force an evidence boundary. The request below is intentionally useful whether it runs through a compatible Grok client, an xAI API integration, or another MCP-capable agent.

Using the connected AppGazers MCP server, research [category] in [country]. Return up to five apps with store URLs, date-stamped ranking or catalog evidence, estimates clearly labeled, review themes, and keyword context. Cite the retrieved source for each fact; separate conclusions from evidence and report tool or data gaps.Security and limitations
AppGazers uses OAuth 2.1, not a token copied from a dashboard. Verify the domain and scopes before approving. mcp:read is enough for catalog research; mcp:user governs watchlist operations and should be requested only for a deliberate user-scoped workflow.
Public ranking, review, ad, and estimate data has coverage limits and estimates are not audited results. An agent cannot turn incomplete data into proof of a competitor’s strategy. AppGazers also exposes tools rather than scheduling automation; an external system must initiate any recurring work.
